A stroll around London
This is my Dad's uncle Jimmy Sainsbury, capturing the world record in 1932 for carrying baskets at Covent Garden. Today, the fruit and vegetable market has gone, but has become a favourite tourist spot in the heart of the Theatre District of London. Back in Jim's days it was where all of London's fruit & veg was distributed and market porters would carry the fruit and veg in these baskets to the waiting lorries for shipping all over London and the surrounding counties.
I am compiling research for a children's book about unique people of Covent Garden Market between 1850-1930. If you have any additional information to pass on about your Great Uncle, "Basket Jim", I'd love to correspond with you and find out more about him. Thank you, email@example.com
